I’ll Take That Bet
Interview with Kirk B. Forseth II
Kirk B. Forseth II is no stranger to storytelling. Originally from Chicago, Kirk now resides in the suburbs in an assisted living facility with his wife, with whom he’s shared life since 1995. He’s a proud father of three—two children on Earth and one watching from Heaven. Since he was just four years old, Kirk has been dreaming up tales and bringing them to life on the page.
A passionate writer, music lover, and self-proclaimed Whovian, Kirk’s creativity shines through in everything he does. And when he’s not writing? He’s probably blasting some L.A. Guns and embracing his inner Slytherin.
I’ll Take That Bet throws readers into a wild, whiskey-soaked ride through the Old West, where Johnny Crawford and his college crew—better known as The Beer Squad—stumble into more than they bargained for. What begins as a carefree spring break turns into a deadly game when a stranger named Coydog McGraw bets against them… with their lives on the line. Will the Squad’s bravado survive the bet, or has their luck finally run dry in Dry River Gulch?
Q&A with Kirk B. Forseth II
When did you first dive into writing?
I’ve always been fascinated by writing but didn’t start officially writing until 2006.
What inspired I’ll Take That Bet?
It was a dream that I had. I fell in love with the character of Coydog McGraw and the story once I was awake.
What’s the most challenging part of writing for you?
I absolutely adore writing. But the most challenging aspect is that I have fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome and it takes me a while to get up so I can start writing. However, once I start, I’m a force to be reckoned with.
Who is your ideal reader?
I can see my reader being a huge fan of the Twilight Zone. Someone who loves the supernatural and bizarre.
What genres do you personally love to read?
Fantasy, horror, and sci-fi.
Is there a book you think deserves more recognition that you really love?
My favorite book, outside of the Bible, is The Vampire Lestat. I was disappointed that when they made the film “Queen of the Damned” that they skipped over most of his story.
What new projects are you excited about?
I have several books that I’m working on:
A supernatural war between creatures.
A Marine who gets pulled into the secret world of Shadowdancers.
A Chicago-based Apache detective battling the Dragon’s Guild.
And an all-out war between elves and malevolent faeries.
What do you hope readers take away from your story?
To be careful what you say, especially when you’re in public.
A quote that resonates with you?
“Nothing in the world is permanent, not even your problems.” — Charlie Chaplin.
Advice for aspiring authors?
In the movie, “Throw Mama From The Train,” Billy Crystal’s character is a writing teacher and he has a quote that I live by, “A writer writes… always!” Even if it’s just a paragraph, write every day.
